Beef, Chorizo, and Jalapeno Pizza

We love homemade pizza nights, and we love getting inventive with the toppings, so when we tracked down some beautiful fresh Jalapeno peppers at the Farmers Market (a real rarity around here!), pizza was right at the top of the list.

The combination of the ground beef with the heat of the jalapenos is a great combination, and topped off with chorizo sausage (or salami), it's a real delight.

It's really hard to get fresh jalapeno peppers here so most of our meals with these delightful peppers use sliced jalapenos from a jar, so finding fresh ones is always super exciting - but boy are they HOT. And we LOVE that!

Beef and Chorizo Pizza

Makes 8 slices

Pizza Base
2 Tbsp tomato paste
300 g ground beef
1 Onion, finely diced
1 - 2 Jalapeno, sliced
1 Cup mozzarella, grated
60 g chorizo sausage, sliced or chopped salami
Chili sauce

1. Make the pizza base according to the instructions (store brought base is perfectly fine!). Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).

2. Heat a dash of oil in a fry pan and brown beef and onion until beef is browned all over. Set aside.

3. Spread tomato paste over the base of the pizza, top with cheese, beef and onion, jalapeno, and chorizo.

4. Bake in the oven for 20 minutes, until base is cooked and crispy.

Note: I often make this pizza with a stuffed crust. Doing this is simple. Before starting to add the pizza toppings, spread a ring of mozzarella around the edge of the pizza base, about a quarter inch from the edge. Fold the remaining quarter inch over the cheese and continue as normal.
