Chocolate and Raspberry Calzones

Chocolate and Raspberry Calzones are a fun and delicious sweet twist on the Italian Calzone pizza. Hands up whose all for a dessert pizza?!

I absolutely adored this dessert. The calzones were easy to make, and once the pizza dough was made, quick too! The combination of ingredients makes this dessert a bit more pleasing to the waist line than my usual desserts - which I know a lot of you will love!

This beautiful dessert comes from my assigned blog for the November Secret Recipe Club

I was really excited to receive this months blog - Teaspoon of Spice. A wonderful blog run by two registered dietitian moms. Again this month, my assigned blog was a new one to me and I completely fell in love with all the beautiful and healthy recipes. Last month, you'll {hopefully} remember that I made a delicious Chinese Five Spice Chicken Noodle Soup, so I had pre-decided that I wanted to make a sweet recipe this month. It was SO hard to choose one.

As I was scrolling through the dessert section on Teaspoon of Spice I was constantly opening new tabs of dessert recipes that I just thought were fantastic. I wanted to make them all. I just kept scrolling back further and further until eventually I came across Chocolate and Raspberry Calzones. My search immediately stopped. I will admit to heading home and making these straight away. Totally worth it.

These calzones would make a lovely dessert for a special occasion; Valentine's Day, Anniversary, or your sweethearts birthday.

Chocolate and Raspberry Calzones

Makes 8

2 pounds refrigerated or frozen pizza dough
1 cup fresh raspberries
3 tablespoons cornstarch
3 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 cup low fat milk
1 cup low fat chocolate milk
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
Powdered sugar
Chocolate syrup
Fresh raspberries

1. Sit thawed pizza dough at room temperature for 1 hour.

2.Place raspberries in a bowl and set aside.

3. In a medium saucepan, whisk together cornstarch, sugar and cocoa powder. Whisk in milk and chocolate milk. Place on the stovetop over a medium heat.

4. Whisk constantly until mixture starts to boil and thickens. Whisk constantly for an additional 2 minutes. Remove from stove and whisk in almond extract. Pour into the bowl of raspberries, mix gently and cool slightly in refrigerator for 1/2 hour.

5. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F (220C).

6. Divide dough into eight pieces. Roll each into a 6-inch circle.

7. Spoon an eighth of the pudding from the onto half of the dough circle. Fold over and seal dough with fork. Repeat with remaining dough circles.

8. Place calzones onto two baking sheets coating with cooking spray. Bake for 10 -12 minutes, until just golden brown. Cool on rack for 15 minutes.

9. Before serving, dust with powdered sugar. Garnish with drizzle of chocolate syrup and more raspberries if desired.
